What did Jews do to incite so much hatred against them before WW2?

Nothing in particular. It's just that to gain power, Hitler needed an ideology and a scapegoat, or someone to blame for the economic and social crises Germany was undergoing. He chose Jews, a minority and blamed them for WWI and Germany's disgrace and blamed them for the failing economy.
